The Sisters of Mercy Australia 2026 Tour
For over four decades, The Sisters of Mercy have been an iconic force in underground music – defining, defying and denying numerous subgenres of rock and roll. Their singular blend of punk‑psychedelia, metal, dance beats and baritone growl has inspired generations of devoted followers and shaped the sound of countless bands.
Formed in Leeds in 1980, The Sisters of Mercy took their name from a Leonard Cohen song, but drew creative fuel from the likes of Bowie, Slade and The Velvet Underground, as well as the raw power of The Stooges, Motörhead and Suicide. That collision of influences birthed a sound that stood apart from their post‑punk peers and still feels unmistakably their own.
1987’s landmark album Floodland pushed the band into a wider spotlight, with enduring anthems “Dominion,” “Lucretia My Reflection” and the 10‑minute epic “This Corrosion” still filling alternative dance floors around the world. 1990’s Vision Thing followed with a harder, more metal‑leaning edge, without sacrificing the band’s trademark drum‑machine pulse, dark wit and lyrical bite.
Disillusioned with the record industry of the 1990s, Andrew Eldritch turned away from the album cycle and doubled down on the live experience. Despite the absence of a new studio LP since Vision Thing, The Sisters of Mercy’s influence and audience have only grown, their erudite, apocalyptic rock resonating with new generations across the globe.
In recent years, the band’s writing has entered a prolific new phase, with a wave of powerful new material that folds the strongest elements of their three classic albums into a sharp, contemporary sound – staying true to the band’s long‑held ethos of moving ever forward.
This November/December, The Sisters of Mercy bring their critically praised live show back to Australia, hitting Perth, Sydney, Hobart, Melbourne and Brisbane. The current line‑up – Andrew Eldritch joined by Ben Christo, Kai, ‘Ravey’ Dave Creffield and, as ever, Doktor Avalanche – has been hailed as the strongest Sisters incarnation in years, pairing a cinematic light show with a setlist packed with huge hits, deep cuts and acclaimed new songs.
